The Active and Ready Project 2 in Pontefract is a community-led initiative designed to support young people aged 10–19 who are at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour, gang activity, or criminal exploitation. Ready and Active 2 Project focuses on expanding opportunities for young people in Pontefract, where many face challenges such as economic disadvantage, racial inequalities, lack of positive role models, and limited access to safe, structured activities.

Through a programme of inclusive multisport sessions – including football, TAG rugby, basketball, cricket, boxercise and arts/crafts, young people will be able to develop teamwork, discipline, and resilience in a safe and engaging environment. Sessions will run at key times, particularly evenings and weekends, when young people are most vulnerable to negative influences.

In addition to sports, the project will deliver educational workshops on topics such as mental health, sexual health, Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE), and Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE). By combining physical activity with personal development, the project aims to build confidence, increase motivation, and inspire young people to make positive life choices.

The Active and Ready Project 2 – Pontefract will also provide pathways into further education, training, and employment, ensuring that young people are better prepared for the future. By creating safe spaces, offering positive role models, and giving young people the tools they need to succeed, the project will reduce the risk of disengagement and help build stronger, safer communities in Pontefract
