The Moor Action Project is a grassroots community initiative working at the heart of Moorthorpe, South Elmsall, and South Kirkby areas with deep-rooted community spirit but also facing significant social and economic challenges. The project was created to respond directly to the needs of local people, especially young people and families, by offering support, opportunity, and a positive presence in communities often overlooked in wider regeneration plans.

At its core, the Moor Action Project focuses on youth engagement, community safety, and well-being, using a mix of outreach work, sports, arts, and mentoring to provide positive alternatives to anti-social behaviour, disengagement, and exclusion.

Key Aims:

  • Support vulnerable and at-risk young people (particularly those facing challenges around mental health, school disengagement, criminal exploitation).

Activities Include:

  • Detached youth work and outreach in key hotspots

  • Multi-sport sessions and creative workshops

  • One-to-one mentoring and signposting to further support
